Sri Venkateswara Prapti

 

ईशानां जगतोऽस्य वेंकटपते र्विष्णोः परां प्रेयसीं
तद्वक्षःस्थल नित्यवासरसिकां तत्-क्षांति संवर्धिनीम् |
पद्मालंकृत पाणिपल्लवयुगां पद्मासनस्थां श्रियं
वात्सल्यादि गुणोज्ज्वलां भगवतीं वंदे जगन्मातरम् ‖
īśānāṃ jagatoasya veṅkaṭapate rviśhṇoḥ parāṃ preyasīṃ
tadvakśhaḥsthala nityavāsarasikāṃ tat-kśhānti saṃvardhinīm |
padmālaṅkṛta pāṇipallavayugāṃ padmāsanasthāṃ śriyaṃ
vātsalyādi guṇojjvalāṃ bhagavatīṃ vande jaganmātaram ‖

Meaning:
I bow to Alarmelmangai or Sridevi, who is the Mother of the universe, who is the Empress of these worlds, who is the most beloved consort of Lord Vishnu who stands on Sri Venkatachala, who rejoices every moment of the eternal experience of residing in the Lord’s chest, who furthers the Lord’s forgiveness, whose hands are adorned with lotuses, who is seated in Padmasana, who is full of auspicious attributes and whose form shines with qualities like mercy and compassion.

 

श्रीमन् कृपाजलनिधे कृतसर्वलोक
सर्वज्ञ शक्त नतवत्सल सर्वशेषिन् |
स्वामिन् सुशील सुल भाश्रित पारिजात
श्रीवेंकटेशचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 2 ‖
śrīman kṛpājalanidhe kṛtasarvaloka
sarvaGYa śakta natavatsala sarvaśeśhin |
svāmin suśīla sula bhāśrita pārijāta
śrīveṅkaṭeśacharaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 2 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Ever associated with Sri, You are an ocean of mercy. You are the creator of all the worlds. You are omniscient and omnipotent. You are compassionate to those who surrender to You. My Lord of auspicious qualities! You are easily accessible and fulfill the wishes of Your devotees. I seek refuge at Your Lotus feet.

 

आनूपुरार्चित सुजात सुगंधि पुष्प
सौरभ्य सौरभकरौ समसन्निवेशौ |
सौम्यौ सदानुभनेऽपि नवानुभाव्यौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 3 ‖
ānūpurārchita sujāta sugandhi puśhpa
saurabhya saurabhakarau samasanniveśau |
saumyau sadānubhaneapi navānubhāvyau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 3 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! The sweet scented and excellent flowers offered at Your anklets are enhanced in fragrance by Your lotus feet. These feet are beautiful and are juxtaposed in a pleasing symmetry. Though they are experienced continuously, they give rise to new experiences every moment. I seek refuge at Your lotus feet.

 

सद्योविकासि समुदित्त्वर सांद्रराग
सौरभ्यनिर्भर सरोरुह साम्यवार्ताम् |
सम्यक्षु साहसपदेषु विलेखयंतौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 4 ‖
sadyovikāsi samudittvara sāndrarāga
saurabhyanirbhara saroruha sāmyavārtām |
samyakśhu sāhasapadeśhu vilekhayantau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 4 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! The words formed in haste that the recently blossomed fragrant red lotuses are comparable to Your divine feet are refuted by the beauty of these feet. (That is, the divine feet of Lord Srinivasa are far superior to these lotuses and the comparison with lotuses is invalidated by their excessive beauty. ) I seek refuge at these holy feet.

 

रेखामय ध्वज सुधाकलशातपत्र
वज्रांकुशांबुरुह कल्पक शंखचक्रैः |
भव्यैरलंकृततलौ परतत्त्व चिह्नैः
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 5 ‖
rekhāmaya dhvaja sudhākalaśātapatra
vajrāṅkuśāmburuha kalpaka śaṅkhachakraiḥ |
bhavyairalaṅkṛtatalau paratattva chihnaiḥ
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 5 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! The soles of Your feet are decorated by lines, and by the marks which identify the Supreme Entity (Paramapuruṣalakṣāṇa) namely the flag, the vessel of elixir, the umbrella, the thunderbolt, the elephant staff, the lotus, the tree of fortune, the conch and the discus. I seek refuge at these divine feet.

 

ताम्रोदरद्युति पराजित पद्मरागौ
बाह्यैर्-महोभि रभिभूत महेंद्रनीलौ |
उद्य न्नखांशुभि रुदस्त शशांक भासौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 6 ‖
tāmrodaradyuti parājita padmarāgau
bāhyair-mahobhi rabhibhūta mahendranīlau |
udya nnakhāṃśubhi rudasta śaśāṅka bhāsau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 6 ‖

Meaning:
O Sri Venkatesa! How beautiful are Your lotus feet where I seek refuge! The insides of Your feet shame the lustre of rubies. The outsides of Your feet exceed the brilliance of sapphires. The light of the full moon pales in comparison to the brightness of the nails of Your feet.

 

स प्रेमभीति कमलाकर पल्लवाभ्यां
संवाहनेऽपि सपदि क्लम माधधानौ |
कांता नवाङ्मानस गोचर सौकुमार्यौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 7 ‖
sa premabhīti kamalākara pallavābhyāṃ
saṃvāhaneapi sapadi klama mādhadhānau |
kāntā navāṅmānasa gochara saukumāryau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 7 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Your lovely lotus feet are so tender that they attain fatigue even when they are pressed with great love and fear by the soft and tender hands of Kamala(Lakshmi). The tenderness and loveliness of Your lotus feet exceeds the abilities of our mind and intellect. I seek refuge at Your lovely feet.

 

लक्ष्मी मही तदनुरूप निजानुभाव
नीकादि दिव्य महिषी करपल्लवानाम् |
आरुण्य संक्रमणतः किल सांद्ररागौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 8 ‖
lakśhmī mahī tadanurūpa nijānubhāva
nīkādi divya mahiśhī karapallavānām |
āruṇya saṅkramaṇataḥ kila sāndrarāgau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 8 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Your lotus feet have attained the deep redness of rubies due to constant association with the redness of the lotus hands of Sri Devi, Bhu Devi, Nila Devi and Your other suitable and loving consorts. I seek refuge at these divine feet.

 

नित्यानमद्विधि शिवादि किरीटकोटि
प्रत्युप्त दीप्त नवरत्नमहः प्ररोहैः |
नीराजनाविधि मुदार मुपादधानौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 9 ‖
nityānamadvidhi śivādi kirīṭakoṭi
pratyupta dīpta navaratnamahaḥ prarohaiḥ |
nīrājanāvidhi mudāra mupādadhānau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 9 ‖

Meaning:
Lord Venkatesa! Your feet receive the best form of deeparadhanam from the bright light emanating from the gems set on the crown-tops of Brahma, Siva and others, who constantly bow at Your feet. I seek refuge at these divine feet.

 

विष्णोः पदे परम” इत्युदित प्रशंसौ
यौ “मध्व उत्स” इति भोग्य तयाऽप्युपात्तौ |
भूयस्तथेति तव पाणितल प्रदिष्टौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 10 ‖
viśhṇoḥ pade parama” ityudita praśaṃsau
yau “madhva utsa” iti bhogya tayā’pyupāttau |
bhūyastatheti tava pāṇitala pradiśhṭau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 10 ‖

Meaning:
Lord Venkatesa! The Vedas proclaim Your lotus feet as the highest in viṣṇoḥ pade paramaḥ. The blissful experience of Your feet is brought out by the description madhva utsaḥ(fountain of honey) in the Vedas. That Your feet are the highest and that they are the most enjoyable is once again revealed by You, as You point to Your feet by Your right hand. As directed by You, I seek refuge at these feet.

 

पार्थाय तत्-सदृश सारधिना त्वयैव
यौ दर्शितौ स्वचरणौ शरणं व्रजेति |
भूयोऽपि मह्य मिह तौ करदर्शितौ ते
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 11 ‖
pārthāya tat-sadṛśa sāradhinā tvayaiva
yau darśitau svacharaṇau śaraṇaṃ vrajeti |
bhūyoapi mahya miha tau karadarśitau te
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 11 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Playing the good chauffeur to Arjuna, You showed Your divine feet to him and asked him to surrender in Charamaslokam of Bhagavad Gita. Once again in Tirumala, You stand pointing to the very same feet for my sake. Hence, I seek refuge at Your divine feet.

 

मन्मूर्थ्नि कालियफने विकटाटवीषु
श्रीवेंकटाद्रि शिखरे शिरसि श्रुतीनाम् |
चित्तेऽप्यनन्य मनसां सममाहितौ ते
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 12 ‖
manmūrthni kāḻiyaphane vikaṭāṭavīśhu
śrīveṅkaṭādri śikhare śirasi śrutīnām |
chitteapyananya manasāṃ samamāhitau te
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 12 ‖

Meaning:
Lord Venkatesa! Your feet do not discriminate between high and low. They are placed in the same way(equally) on top of my head, on the hoods of Kaliya(during Krishnavatara), in the thick woods(during Ramavatara), on the peak of Tirumala, on the heads of Vedas(in the Upanishads) and also in the minds of those who meditate only on You. I seek refuge at these divine feet.

 

अम्लान हृष्य दवनीतल कीर्णपुष्पौ
श्रीवेंकटाद्रि शिखराभरणाय-मानौ |
आनंदिताखिल मनो नयनौ तवै तौ
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 13 ‖
amlāna hṛśhya davanītala kīrṇapuśhpau
śrīveṅkaṭādri śikharābharaṇāya-mānau |
ānanditākhila mano nayanau tavai tau
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 13 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Your lotus feet are worshipped by flowers. By the association with Your lotus feet, these flower never wither and remain forever fresh. Your lotus feet are the jewels decorating the head of Tirumala. They delight the hearts and eyes of everyone. I seek refuge at Your feet.

 

प्रायः प्रपन्न जनता प्रथमावगाह्यौ
मातुः स्तनाविव शिशो रमृतायमाणौ |
प्राप्तौ परस्पर तुला मतुलांतरौ ते
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 14 ‖
prāyaḥ prapanna janatā prathamāvagāhyau
mātuḥ stanāviva śiśo ramṛtāyamāṇau |
prāptau paraspara tulā matulāntarau te
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 14 ‖

Meaning:
Lord Venkatesa! Your lotus feet are the primary interest of Prapannas in the same manner that the breasts of a mother are the primary interest of a newly born baby that needs milk. Your divine feet are sweet as nectar and yet, are easily attained by Your devotees (unlike the nectar sought by the Devas, to attain which they had to struggle). Your feet are so wonderful that they can be compared only with each other and with nothing else. I seek refuge at Your feet.

 

सत्त्वोत्तरैः सतत सेव्यपदांबुजेन
संसार तारक दयार्द्र दृगंचलेन |
सौम्योपयंतृ मुनिना मम दर्शितौ ते
श्रीवेंकटेश चरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये ‖ 15 ‖
sattvottaraiḥ satata sevyapadāmbujena
saṃsāra tāraka dayārdra dṛgañchalena |
saumyopayantṛ muninā mama darśitau te
śrīveṅkaṭeśa charaṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ‖ 15 ‖

Meaning:
Sri Venkatesa! Your divine feet were identified as the means and end by my preceptor Svami Manavala Mamunigal (Varavaramuni) whose lotus feet are always worshipped by the purest of people, and whose cool and merciful glances of grace rescue people from samsara. Therefore, I seek refuge at Your divine feet.

 

श्रीश श्रिया घटिकया त्वदुपाय भावे
प्राप्येत्वयि स्वयमुपेय तया स्फुरंत्या |
नित्याश्रिताय निरवद्य गुणाय तुभ्यं
स्यां किंकरो वृषगिरीश न जातु मह्यम् ‖ 16 ‖
śrīśa śriyā ghaṭikayā tvadupāya bhāve
prāpyetvayi svayamupeya tayā sphurantyā |
nityāśritāya niravadya guṇāya tubhyaṃ
syāṃ kiṅkaro vṛśhagirīśa na jātu mahyam ‖ 16 ‖

Meaning:
Lord of Vrshachala! Lord of Sri! You are the upaya(means) attained by me due to the purushakaram(mediation) of Lakshmi. You alone are the upeya(end) obtained through Yourself. Dear Lord! You are always associated with Sri. You are always free from blemish. You are the abode of auspiciousness. May I be Your servant forever without any selfish interest.
